Game drives

The Vuyani Safari Lodge offers an all-in game drive service, twice daily, in our open 4x4 safari vehicles. The highly experienced and knowledgeable rangers know the estate inside out, helping our guests discover the true extent of the richness and complexity of the African bush.

Ranger Quinton is known for his tracking abilities on the Moditlo Game Reserve. To observe the rarest and most famous animals of Africa up-close is a privilege we are proud of being able to share with our guests at Vuyani Safari Lodge.

Each safari drive typically lasts for about 3-3.5 hours.

Morning safari drives start at approximately 6 o'clock, to capture the most beautiful moments of African wilderness. We will take a coffee break during the drive, usually near one of the 20 lakes on the Moditlo Reserve, where our guests can observe hippos and hundreds of different bird species against the backdrop of the impressive Drakensberg mountains.

Our ranger and guests will set off for the afternoon drive at about 4 o'clock, which lasts until the early evenings. This is prime time to view lions go out on their nocturnal hunts!

After gazing at a breathtaking African sunset it is time for a mouth-watering dinner awaiting our guests back at the lodge.

Kruger Park

The Moditlo Game Reserve is located right next to the Kruger National Park.

The Kruger Park is one of the world's oldest national parks, and offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa.

The Vuyani Safari Lodge can organise half-day and full-day trips to the Kruger Park, which include appropriate meals. The knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides aim to arrive at the gates at opening time to take full advantage of this fabulous game viewing opportunity.

Air conditioned luxury vehicles or open safari vehicles are available.

Panoramic Route

This tour departs straight from the Vuyani Safari Lodge, located in the Lowveld, and climbs out of this vast valley of many rivers onto the Drakensberg escarpment. The route winds along the edge of the Blyde River Canyon with regular stops at look out points including God's Window, the Three Rondawels, and the Pinnacle. The cool mountain air gives rise to fresh and lush plant life while mountain streams present impressive waterfalls in secluded chasms.

At the small town of Graskop the inland plateau ends abruptly and opens up to a fantastic view of the plains of the Lowveld a 1000m below. This small town is the luncheon stop for the tour, and provides a great opportunity to purchase African artefacts from the many galleries.

This day trip can also be combined with a trip to Pilgrim's Rest, an entirely preserved 19th century gold mining town.

The day trip includes lunch and entrance fees.

Olifants River Boat Cruise

Embark on a boat for three hours of close encounters with crocodiles, hippos and elephants on the Olifants river, bordering the Kruger National Park

The top deck of the boat caters well for avid photographers and birding enthusiasts.

Blyde River Canyon Cruise

This is a 2.5 hour mid-day trip, which is perfect as an in-between safari game drives activity.

Enjoy the splendour of the world's third largest canyon in the world, and unquestionably the largest 'green canyon' due to its lush subtropical foliage. An interpreted tour will reveal the remarkable geology of the canyon, its rare Tufa waterfall and the eye-catching formations of the Three Rondawels.

This exclusive boat trip includes an assortment of finely prepared finger food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Hot air ballooning

Come aboard for an experience of a lifetime. Experience the magic of lighter-than-air flight over the private nature reserves adjoining the Kruger National Park, or over the Lowveld section of the Blyde River.

Wildlife is often spotted from the air and the scenery is breathtaking.

The flight will last about 90 minutes, sparkling wine and fruit juices are served after the flight.

Elephant Interaction

One of those "Have to do" experiences!

During the interaction guests can experience the thrill of being close to these magnificent creatures and witness their intelligence and their compassionate nature.

The encounter offers guests the opportunity to touch the elephants, exchange trunk greetings and offer them tasty treats.

An elephant back ride offers a privilege historically reserved for kings.

Golf at the Hans Merensky Golf Course

A round of golf set in wildlife areas, ensuring a uniqueness where it is common to see giraffe, warthogs, and all sorts of antelope crossing the rolling fairways. Playing through is not an option when the pin is being blocked by a seven-ton elephant.

Water hazards are just that with live crocodiles and hippos - not the place to go searching for misdirected balls!

Enhance a visit to the bush by enjoying a game of golf on any of the beautiful and challenging courses offered for all skill levels, some of which are world famous (Leopard Creek and Hans Merensky).

The Vuyani Safari Lodge can organise a full-serviced transfer (van and driver) to any of these local golf estates.

There are many more activities that Vuyani Safari Lodge can organise for your safari holidays, such as river rafting, abseiling, Childrens Eco Training Awareness, a Tribal community experience, a visit to the nearby Cheetah Rescue Centre, a quad bike adventure and even a helicopter trip.

All these activities can be booked on an ad-hoc basis once you are at the Vuyani Safari Lodge. Your personal ranger will take care of all bookings and transfers.
